Questionable Decisions: a day in the life of

1. Last night, we stopped by TJs after Girl Scouts to say hi to the good looking assistant manager who just happens to be our favorite Dada and hardworking husband. That was a good decision. The kids each picked out a prepared food to eat on the way home, because we'd left home that morning at 10:30, and I'd only managed to get lunch pulled together. And actually, Wyatt was the one who made the sandwiches for us while I frantically got little people in day time clothes and changed diapers and grabbed all the books for school and entertainment, and, and, and.

So the kids each selected a food from the ready-to-eat prepared food section. Readers, they each chose a salad. (yes, I was so absolutely surprised) Ceasar salad with chicken to be exact. And they each actually ate their salad, with all the elements, and they each gave it a thumbs up. (say what!?)

The questionable decision? I bought tomato soup flavored rice and oat crackers. I was like, yeah, they'll be tasty, something different. But really? They are not delicious to my mouth. Fortunately, Wyatt enjoys them, and he can now take them as a snack for his commute since I ate all the Bamba Peanut Snacks he had in his car last week while I was driving home from work and from appointments.

2. Last month, Margaret had her 15 month well-check. She was supposed to receive several vaccines, but since she was recovering from a cold and had some pus in her ear, we delayed a week so that if she developed a fever we wouldn't have confusion over whether it was an ear infection or vaccine reaction. The day she was scheduled for a recheck was the day I came down with norovirus, and everyone at the medical office can thank me that that appointment was cancelled. Fast forward to today, and she has her appointment with the doctor, and Jameson has an appointment with a nurse for his final Hep B round.

Poor bubba was in tears and panic this morning about the idea of getting a shot. I can hardly blame him. He did ok when we got to the office, and was super chatty with the dr, but when it came time for shots things got hairy. Margaret had hers first, and I was able to nurse her throughout. Brilliant. And yes, I prayed that she would not bite me. She did well, but when I had to pass her to a sister to hold her so that I could hold Jameson, things got ugly. He was full on panic and curling into a little ball so that I couldn't get his thigh exposed, and Margaret was wailing for me and thrashing in her sisters arms. Everyone ended up getting the things they needed, but we ended with me sitting on the floor holding two sobbing children and mentally kicking myself for being such an idiot.

Why did I think it would be a good idea to take both babies for their pokes on the same day, without any adult backup? It's not like this is my first rodeo. #someonewasabitoverlyconfident #itwasme

3. After the shots, I took the kids to Target (because my life wasn't feeling chaotic enough) to pick up some cream for Margaret's fancy diaper rash, and to get some ice cream. Yes, I am the parent rewarding their kid with ice cream after they had to do something unpleasant. Target with four kids. Four hungry kids. After being in the Dr office for and hour. A questionable decision indeed.

4. I gave my kids ice cream cones for lunch. And after that I gave them sandwiches of peanut butter with cocoa/almond spread. But I also gave them cucumbers and carrots. I sent the three big kids off to the park with my mom while I stayed home to nap with the baby because I was completely done. For some reason the baby took way too long to settle down and fall asleep. See the beginning of this paragraph. #winning

5. Because of  unexpected events (final house inspection!) this morning, I didn't get any caffeine in my body before 2pm. I decided to go nap rather than have coffee so that I would sleep well and long. I did sleep very well, but I also woke with a wicked headache that has developed into a migraine tonight. Neat.

6. It is now 11:30 pm and I am going to chug a cup of full-caffeine coffee, along with taking some acetaminophen. I fully admit, this is a questionable decision, and I may regret my life choices by the morning. I'll let you know how things go.
